Ann Arbor, MI — Mi-Light, the Michigan photonics industry cluster, announces that $3,000 in scholarships given to Baker College of Flint have been awarded. Roger Fischer and Dennis LaPorte, have each received a $1,500 scholarship to pursue an associate degree in photonics and laser technology at Baker College.

TRUMPF German's ebm-pabst Energy Scouts Journey to US on Green Mission

Last week, three ebm-papst energy scouts from Germany took their sustainability vision further - much further - by embarking on a one-week trip to the United States. They spent time at the company's US subsidiary - ebm-papst, Inc. of Farmington, Conn. There, they presented their expertise to colleagues and shared their experiences with more than 200 employees. And that was just the beginning of their visit.

Armed with tools including a thermal imaging camera and compressed-air measuring devices, the energy scouts conducted energy assessments throughout the week at Sound Manufacturing, Inc. of Old Saybrook, a precision sheet metal manufacturer, and Trumpf Inc. of Farmington, an industrial laser and fabricating equipment manufacturing facility. They identified specific energy leaks and made suggestions to each facility on how to reduce energy waste and maximize their resources.

TOKYO and SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 30, 2015 – Rigaku Corp. and Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced an agreement for Rigaku, a privately held scientific instrumentation company headquartered in Tokyo, to acquire Agilent’s X-ray diffraction (XRD) business.

Formerly known as Oxford Diffraction within Varian when that company was acquired by Agilent in 2010, the XRD group is a key manufacturer of single-crystal X-ray instruments for the global chemical crystallography market.

Stefan Fickenscher named managing director, TRUMPF Canada

Stefan Fickenscher named managing director, TRUMPF Canada

FARMINGTON, Conn., March 27, 2015 - Effective April 1, 2015, Stefan Fickenscher will become Manager Director of TRUMPF Canada.  He succeeds Stefan Schreiber who returns to TRUMPF GmbH + Co. KG in Ditzingen, Germany as head of central sales subsidiaries in the machine tool division.

Fickenscher joined TRUMPF GmbH + Co. KG in 2002 as International Project Manager, 2D lasers. He held two additional positions in Germany before transferring to TRUMPF Inc. in Farmington, CT in 2011. He joined TRUMPF Inc. as Product Manager, TruLaser product group and became responsiblefor the sales of 2D laser machines across North America.

In his new role as Managing Director, Fickenscher will be responsible for the day to day operations in Canada, including sales, service and spare parts at the subsidiary's new location in Mississauga, Ontario. He reports directly to Burke Doar, senior vice president of TRUMPF Inc.
